A proposal for a neighbourhood mosque in Yoncalı, Uşak: a plain stone-clad prism with square Kufic script on its walls, a slender freestanding minaret and a colonnaded ablution fountain.

For Yoncalı we propose a modest neighbourhood mosque: a long prism clad in stone. Its plan narrows to a point at the entrance and at the qibla, so the prayer hall runs along a single axis from the door to the qibla wall.

Ornament is worked into the building itself: square Kufic panels on the facade, a coffered ceiling in the same pattern inside, and the name of God in relief on the qibla wall. The centre of the ceiling rises to give the hall height, and tall, narrow windows along both long walls bring in daylight.

The programme is simple: an entrance hall, the imam's room, a muezzin's area and a women's prayer space set off by a modular wall. The minaret stands apart from the hall as a slender tower ending in an open lantern. The ablution fountain sits in the courtyard under its own flat-roofed colonnade.

The scheme was developed through a full set of drawings: site plan, floor plan, and long and short sections.
